Parking: Parking is straight ahead from the gate. Follow marshals' instructions.

Registration: Registration at Mid Lancs HQ is in the sports pavilion. But go to the Preston HQ tent FIRST and please bring your number if you've run this season. If it's lost then don't produce a basic effort, please go to the Mid Lancs tent and get a decent copy.

Toilets: Find six portable toilets behind the sports pavilion.

Care of School Property: Please keep mud out of buildings, don't cut corners on courses which is unfair to others and can damage sports pitches and wash dirty running gear at home.

UPPER YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE, TRAFFORD - Sunday 24th July 2016

2016 Sophie Warden in 400m hurdlesBattling Preston Harriers missed their unavailable athletes in the last of the Youth Development League Premier West at Trafford. Absent athletes meant that Harriers were not able to cover a large number of events resulting in a disappointing 5th place in the match. Harriers faced the two strongest clubs in the North West, Liverpool Harriers and Sale (1st & 2nd in the league) and finished the season in a pleasing 3rd place.
The quality of Harriers athletes was shown in their performances. Sophie Warden showed her determination by winning the Under 20 400m hurdles in the first race of the day and followed this with 2nd, 4th and 6th places in the triple jump, long jump & 200m, finishing by running a leg of the 4 x 100m relay. Matius Grixti had a massive personal best, knocking 10 seconds off his previous best to record 4.30.3 for the under 17 Boys 1500m. Edward Jeans, after improving his personal best in the Under 20 hammer to 62.29m (club record) the day before in Scotland, consolidated this with his second best throw ever of 62.01m. He also won the shot with 11.85m and was 2nd in the discus with 32.72m.

LOWER YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE FINAL FIXTURE, LIVERPOOL - Saturday 16th July 2016

PRESTON HARRIERS QUALIFY FOR NATIONAL FINAL
2016 Lauryn Wood breaks club record in the javelinAnother outstanding result for Preston Harriers under 13 & under 15 team to qualify for the national final for the 8th year out of the last 9. Harriers finished second in the league behind Sale Harriers who are the reigning national champions. The final is at Bedford in September which will mean an overnight stay for the athletes.
Harriers have an outstanding bunch of young athletes with 2 club records being broken at the match. Emma Vickers continued her impressive progress to heave the hammer a massive 44.43 metres and improve her own under 15 club record by over 7 metres. 12-year-old Lauryn Wood launched the javelin to a club record of 26.19m to win the under 13 event and showed that she is a multi-talented athlete.
Harriers were not at full strength but battled with the hosts, Liverpool, for the second spot behind Sale throughout the match. Coming into the last event of the day, the under 15 boys 4 X 300 relay, Harriers were 6 points behind Liverpool. It seemed impossible for Harriers to make up that deficit but Liverpool were disqualified for an infringement and the 7 points that Harriers gained by finishing second were enough to secure second place by a single point.
English Schools silver medal winner Sam Gaskell threw the hammer 54.25 metres - his second best throw ever - to win the boys under 15 event. He followed that with a win in the shot, putting 12.36m. Liam Wilkes won the 'B' under 15 boys hammer with a personal best of 34.44m. Brandon Sharrock & Will Lancaster won the 'B' under 15 javelin and shot events respectively. Will also won the discus 'A' Event with his last round throw.

Wesham Interclub

Message from Wesham Road Runners regarding the Inter Club Race on Monday 18th July 2016:

Due to circumstances beyond the control of the event organizers, signage was tampered with shortly before the race started. This naturally lead to confusion and as a result the first 110 runners unfortunately went the wrong way. This made it impossible to have a fair and honest result to all that took part whether they ran the correct route or short route.
We at Wesham have made the difficult decision to call the Wesham Interclub of 2016 null and void.
I hope you can understand why we have made this decision and we can move swiftly on and keep the good spirit of the Interclub going. Alan and Greg will post last night's finishing times.
Many Thanks
Lee Barlow(Chairperson)
Steve Gore(Race Director)
Alan Hudson(Result Co-ordinator)

Sedbergh Sports Fell Race - Saturday 9th July 2016

2016 Nichola Jackson - Sedbergh Sports2016 Michael McLoughlin after Sedbergh Sports fell raceThe Sedbergh Sports fell race is a short, steep and fast fell race of just 5.6k and this year it was both an English and British counter in the fell running championships,
Conditions were dreadful, with early rain turning to gusty winds and thick hill fog enveloping the lesser heights of both hills on the course, Knott and Sickers Fell. The descent of Sickers Fell was so steep and slippery that many runners had to slow down. The ladies went first at 2.30pm and Nichola Jackson was an excellent 4th in 30.59. Victoria Wilkinson of Bingley Harriers won in 29.05. Despite the weather, the top eight were all inside the old record of 31.28.
There were 232 in the mens race and Michael McLoughlin finished in 38.57, with a rueful smile at the end because of the quad thumping descent.

2016 Peter Warden at Ellesmere Port2016 Amy Lupton in the triple jumpPreston Harriers Seniors had a great team result in winning the 3rd match at Ellesmere Port by just 13 points from Wakefield to move up to second position in the league. With the final match next month at Blackburn, Harriers can take the title if they manage to win that match and Wakefield come no higher than third.
Team spirit was high with all athletes willing to give their all. With Harriers’ second thrower caught in a traffic jam OAP coach Peter Warden stepped up to throw the hammer in the first event. Peter, an international hurdler 40 odd years ago, made his throwing début which inspired his team mates to record some outstanding performances.
