Mid Lancs League - Track & Field Meeting, Stanley Park, Blackpool - Saturday 2nd April 2016
Saturday 2nd April saw the start of the outdoor 2016 track and field season. Even with the cold damp weather 58 Preston Harriers turned out to compete for their club with some great performances throughout the day, in the Mid Lancs League at Blackpool.
The first race on the track, the under 13 girls 100m, was won by Macy Noblett who ran the fastest time across the 6 heats. Later in the day Macy also won the Shot Put recording a new Preston Harriers club record of 9.54m before going on to her third win of the day in the 200m – definitely an athlete with great potential.
In the under 13s other notable performances included Imogen Blackwell who won the u13 girls 800m in 2min 39sec and Ethan Warren who recorded two second places in the 200m (30.6sec) and 1500m (5min 7sec). Thomas Barnes and Gregor Anderson continued the middle distance dominance finishing first and second respectively in the u13 boys 800m.
Under 15 performance were equally impressive with Ethan Tibbs winning the Shot (8.39m), coming second in the 400mand fourth in the Long Jump. Aaron Baird continued his fantastic introduction to track and field winning the 200m and placing third in the 100m.
Lauren Tunstall won the javelin (28.85m), placed third in the Shot and fourth in Long Jump.
In the under 17 age group there were wins for Lewis Ormerod in Javelin (41.08m) and Joe Millne-Ellison – 200m (23.9sec). Jordan Cooper came second in the Hammer 42.73m and Dominic Johnrose finished second in the 100m.
Charlotte Daley in the under 17 women recorded 3 great performances winning Triple Jump and finishing second in Long Jump and 200m.
Senior athlete Lawrence Omerere won the 100m (11.5sec) and Andy Benson placed second in both 800m and 1500m.George Reed improved his personal best in the Triple Jump winning the competition with 12.15m
Sophie Warden continued the success in the senior age group finishing equal first in 100m and also winning the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Caitlin Hornby finished second in the hammer with a fantastic throw of 38.75m, a personal best with the 4kg weight.
The next Mid Lancs League meeting takes place on Saturday 30th April at Blackburn.
