Mid Lancs XC Towneley Park, Burnley – Saturday 24th October 2015
In a very well represented U11 girls’ field, Preston Harriers had Ellie Snape Travis, Anna Thompson, Isabella Buraimo, Mary Tranter and Grace Halliday all working hard over a good X-C surface in relatively mild weather. Harriers’ U11 boys contingent was led by Hayden Middleton followed by Jensen Warren, Simon Shilton, John Yelland, Thomas Haworth, Joseph Thompson and Harvey Vickers who gamely ploughed on to the finish although detached from the other runners.
The U13 girls saw good running from Annie Duffy and Lucy Treadell, well up the field but unfortunately lacking the support of another for a good team placing.
Liam Blackwell led a strong field of Harriers home in the U13 boys. Behind him was a posse of Benjamin Withers, Thomas Durney and Ethan Warren ensuring a 3rd team placing. Thomas Barnes, Jacob Shilton, Aaron Halliday and Harvey Halliday completed the hard working team.
Our U15 girls were all well placed with Tegan Macuras leading them home with Charlotte Morris, Sopie Rotherham and Sophie Reid gaining a 2nd team placing.
The U15 boys team of Isaac Sharples, Niall Higham and Matthew Fazakerley put in good performances to gain a 4th team placing.
In the U17 races we had lone runners in the girls’ and men’s races with Meg Beckett and Dexter Sparrow our only competitors who nevertheless put in good individual performances.
In the senior ladies, Nichola Jackson came a great 3rd overall and with backup from Philippa Walsh and Ambi Tipping took 2nd team placing. The ‘B’ team of Loy Kalisaram, Charlotte Rawcliffe and Vicky Sherrington were 20th . Charlotte had a great run seeing as she woke up in Qatar in the morning and raced in Burnley in the afternoon. The ladies had good results too in the over 35s coming 6th and 22nd in the ‘B’ and in the over 45s 5th and 17th .
The U20 men of Chris Durney (1st) and Daniel Bebbington (3rd) were short of another team member to take the U20 team but they led the senior men to a good 5th team placing with Gethin Butler, Jon Green, Steve Hallas and Sam Swindells. The ‘B’ team were 16th, over 40s 1st and 13th, over 50s 6th and 17th, and over 60s 1st .
After the racing was over the Harriers ‘recovery’ began with Adela’s Spanish omelette, Charlotte’s chocolate cake and Loy’s doughnuts, well worth the effort!
