Senior T&F League, Hull - Sunday 3rd May 2015

2015 Symon WoanWith a limited number of athletes available, Harriers travelled to Hull on Sunday to take part in the first match of the Senior League season.
Thomas Crowe got the competition underway with the men's hammer, quickly followed by the Lupton sisters Hannah and Amy in the women's long jump. Great performances were abandoned before the competition got underway due to the cold, windy and very wet conditions, leading to a track which would give nothing back to the athletes in performance. Hannah and Amy battled the elements and Amy was awarded the win as the B string athlete with a jump of 5m13, but Hannah had to settle for second on count back with 5m38 as the A string.

The weather was so wet the pole vault was held indoors, Ava McGuckian and Jess Swannack adapted well to the change, Jess managing to clear 3m20 to finish equal 1st..
First on the track were Sophie Warden and Tara Johnson in the women's 400mh. Sophie in her first full season at the event was delighted with a new personal best of 69.1, that's almost 5 seconds she has dropped off her pb since her first race at the back end of last season. Tara filled the place of our B athlete to help fill places and gain valuable points for the small team along with competing in the 200m and relay.
Eden Ashton took to the track in the women's 100mh, having made the trip across the Pennines just for that race, her team mates really appreciated her contribution considering it was her birthday, true club spirit.
Isobel Akrill gained points in the hammer and discus along with team manager Laura Breakell who also took part in the high jump.
The Lupton sisters continued their joint attack on the events when they took on the shot and javelin. Elder sister Hannah held her own to beat Amy in 2 of the 3 events in which they competed against each other in.
Abbie Unsworth played her part for the team, despite concerns with a foot injury, competing in her main event of the Triple Jump as well as the 100m and high jump.
The men despite being very few in numbers pulled together and performed well.
Symon Woan ran a seasons best in the 400m before following that up with a very close race in the 200m less than 40mins later, having started his day with a 100m
Decathlete Luke Farnworth was to complete his fair share of events, starting with the long jump and 400m before injury threatened, so caution took over.
New boy Lawrence Omerere having swapped his tangerine vest of Blackpool for the red and blue of Preston wore his vest with pride in the 100m, but injury niggled, so the decision was made that he would not risk competing further.
Tom Crowe, the one man throws team, continued his support of the team in the men's shot, discus and javelin,.
David Rigby team captain and one man team in his own ran the 1500m very closely followed by the 800m and 5000m and still finding time to throw a discus.
