Games - Melbourne Mid Lancs League Meeting 22nd April 2006 With a number of older Preston Harriers juniors involved in the junior league meeting at Cleckheaton on the Sunday, the younger athletes and a handful of seniors were left to carry the flag at the first Mid Lancs league meeting of the season..more Junior League Match - Cleckheaton 23rd April 2006 Preston Harriers first match of the season in the National Junior League produced some excellent performances...more Lancashire County & Lancashire Schools’ Combined Event Championships PRESTON 8th 9th April 2006 Preston has a wealth of budding combined events stars hoping to emulate last months Commonwealth Gold Medallists from Melbourne, Dean Macey (Decathlon) and Kelly Southerton (Heptathlon) in the London Olympics 2012. Preston Harriers athletes won 8 out of the 9 age categories in the Lancashire County & Lancashire Schools Combined Events Championship held at Preston last weekend. Harrier athletes won a total of 17 medals, 8 gold, 4silver and 5 bronze. A clean sweep of the Junior Boys Pentathlon with George Sharp taking gold with 1782 points only 1 point in front of team mate Mark Sutton with Anthony Brooke grabbing bronze. Michael Porter recovered from a disaster in the hurdles to clinch 4th spot. Harriers took their second clean sweep of the medals in the Boys Under 13’s Miniathlon with Sam Miller smashing the Championship Record with a points score of 64, Robert Gallery took silver and Joshua Ingham won bronze. Jacob Weir was 5th and Ryan Cooper 7th. The Girls were not to be out done when Intermediate Heptathletes also won Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Eleanor Markendale setting a new personal best points score of 4280 winning with Rebekah Ingham second 3654 and Catherine Cassidy third 3321. Rebecca Wiseman took gold in the Senior Ladies Heptathlon County Championship while Emma James took the equivalent Championship in the Schools’ Event. Andrew Robinson now concentrating on Combined Events took the Senior Boys Decathlon title in his first 10-event competition with a score of 4380. Grace Robertson took gold in the Junior Girls Pentathlon Championship with personal best, points total of 2329, Hannah Lupton with battling performance won bronze with 2283 points. Katie Mathers finished a creditable 4th. Amy Lupton won the under 13’s girls Miniathlon with 68 points with Katy Livesey 5th. Middle distance specialist Matthew Lloyd won silver in the Intermediate Boys Octathlon scoring 2809 points, while Leame Isherwood secured bronze with 2610 points. Performance of the weekend was Blackpool’s Hannah Dickson, last year’s English School’s Junior High Jump Champion and the country’s leading High Jumper for her age last year setting a new personal best of 1.70 metres on her way to the silver medal in the Junior Girls Pentathlon Championship. |
