NW Counties Road Relays, Edge Hill, Ormskirk - Saturday 12th September 2015
Edge Hill University at Ormskirk was the venue for this year’s NW Counties Road Relays. Blustery but dry conditions prevailed, although there had been early morning rain. The various age group courses started and finished on the new athletics track, and they all followed a perimeter route around the campus sports facilities.
Harriers U17 women ran 3 x 2.9k legs finishing fourth overall, and first Lancashire team. The team was Meg Beckett, Charlotte Crook and Blyth Fourie. The U17 men had a terrific day too; the A team of George Warburton, Jake Lonsdale & Nathan Dunn were 2nd overall with each runner completing 5k. Harriers finished in 54.51, behind Vale Royal’s winning time of 51.31. The B team of Louis Barrow, Adam Roberts and Dean Tierney was 4th. Nathan Dunn recorded the equal 4th fastest time on the day of 16.59
There were four senior ladies teams running too. Vale Royal won this race too, whilst Harriers A team of Cat Slater, Becky Rigby and Nichola Jackson were 5th in 58.55 and first Lancashire team. The B runners of Ambi Tipping, Emma Essex-Crosby and Charlotte Rawcliffe were 19th and 4th Lancashire team on the day. The remaining teams were 11th & 16th in the Lancashire table.
The senior mens race, with four legs of 5k saw 81 runners set off. There then followed a very close race, with Liverpool Harriers winning by just 17 seconds from Salford and Preston Harriers` team of Patrick Dever, Andy Benson, David Rigby, and Daniel Bebbington were a great 3rd. The competition was stiff indeed with Harriers B team 19th and the C team 48th overall. David Rigby’s time of 15.55 was the 4th fastest on the day.
