Wesham Road Inter-Club - Monday 22nd July 2013
A very warm and still evening did not provide ideal conditions for runners competing in the Wesham-hosted road inter-club race on Monday. The race starts from the Salwick club on Lea Road and has a number of small, but testing undulations but it is a very scenic route and one of the favourites in the series for many competitors.

English Schools Track & Field Championships - Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th July 2013
At the English Schools championships in Birmingham last weekend three athletes from Preston Harriers won medals. Jamaine Coleman medalled for the second time, improving on last year’s silver to win gold and become English Schools champion in the Senior Boys 2000m steeplechase. Running from the front right from the start Jamaine looked relaxed and in control. He led the race through the early laps, staying out of all trouble, and after the bell just gradually built up his speed to extend the field and build a lead that made the final straight appear an easy run home to victory, a gold medal and a pb National Standard time of 5.52.29.

LANCASTER CASTLE MARATHON - Sunday 30th June 2013
Last Sunday saw the second Lancaster Castle Marathon take place utilising the steep challenging inclines around Quernmore and Littledale. The very first mile gave everyone a real taste of what was to come with a stinging climb with two Preston Harriers, Gethin Butler and Neil Mc Donald, mixing it with the leading pack. By mile 3 Butler’s dominant strength was evident as he was able to ramp up the pace to establish an emphatic lead which was never challenged. Working alone, he maintained his cadence to be rewarded with a cracking victorious time of 02.42.22.

Upper YDL Match 3 Edinburgh - Sunday 30th June 2013
Preston Harriers travelled to Edinburgh for their third match of the season to compete at the Meadowbank Stadium against teams from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Gateshead and Liverpool. To say that Preston are competing against the big city clubs is not overstating the case, as both Glasgow and Edinburgh are also combined teams made up from several clubs! In this company Preston are always going to have an uphill battle, but it is trips like this one that help make the individual athletes into a team, as the coach trip and overnight stop provide a rare opportunity for athletes from different training groups to get to know one another better, and to develop the idea that in the leagues they are competing for one another, rather than just themselves.
