Lancashire 2012 Track & Field Championships

At the Lancashire County Championships in Blackpool on 12th-13th May, Preston Harriers athletes excelled. Athletes representing the club collected 44 Gold, 40 Silver and 24 Bronze medals.
Top of the medal table was under 17 Rhiann Beaumont, who won Gold in Javelin, Shot, Sprint Hurdles and Pole Vault, as well as picking up silver in the Long Jump. Under 15 James Lane won even more medals than Rhiann, with Gold in the Long jump, Shot Putt and Discus plus silver in Hammer, Javelin and Pole Vault.
There were also ten athletes who won two gold medals each. Under 17 Curtis Mitchell won the Long Jump and Sprint Hurdles, as well as finishing second in the High Jump and third for Bronze in the 100m. Will Goodier is now an under 17, and he took gold medals in Shot and Steeplechase, as well as collecting a bronze medal in the Discus. Under 20 Sam Johnson was the only other thrower to collect two gold medals, his coming in the Hammer and Discus.
In the middle distance races there were several double gold medal winners, notably U17 Jamaine Coleman who won the 800m/1500m double, as did under 15 Charlotte Crook. Bradley Yates and Chris Durney did a double one two in the under 15’s 800 and 1500, Bradley taking both gold medals.
Kirsty Fraser in the U 17 ladies took gold in the 300m/800m double, and Lauren Bugler took the gold medals in the Under 20 equivalent – 400m and 800m.
In the Sprints Owen Hargrave ruled supreme in the Under 15 boys, equalling the championship best in the 100m on Saturday, and returning on the Sunday to pick up a second gold in the 200m. Sophie Riley did the same job of collecting double sprint gold in the under 20s, with Sasha Byrom close behind for silver in both races.
